        Used Excel in conjunction with Yahoo! API’s to generate historical and real time stock information.  Data was then organized programmatically using VBA, and analyzed using Excel tools.

        Designed system in Excel to generate random test problems used by accounting professors to give to their students.  The data involved complex accounting calculations.  After being generated the problems were uploaded to Blackboard for use with an online test taking system.

        Created Excel add-ins using VB.NET including creation of custom task panes using VSTO.

        Developed VBA code in Word (2007-2010) to automate publishing and editing processes, using advanced editing techniques, including multi-lingual documents, paragraph and character styling, footnotes, cross references and fields.

        VBA encoding using standard techniques, as well as advanced techniques, Win API calls, VBE Extensibility, Classes, standard modules, UserForms, Unicode.

        Ran project to convert complex Word 2003 template to Word 2010.  Project involved creating custom ribbons using RibbonX XML code, custom menus, custom icons, and the ability to work with existing buttons on Add-ins tab.  I ran the entire operation including design specification, gathering business requirements, programming, debugging, and communicating with technical and end users.

        Wrote technical documentation to be used by software developers.

 

Office 2007 Upgrade VBA Helpdesk                                                        April, 2011 – July, 2011 (3-month contract)

        Ran helpdesk for team upgrading from Office 2003 to 2007.  Oversaw and successfully resolved issues for several hundred end users, connecting with local users as well as remote users across the U.S., Europe, and other countries.  Worked in test and production support.

        Converted Office 2003 documents to 2007 format.  This included complex Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.  Addressed and resolved compatibility issues which arose as a result of conversion.  Rewrote VBA code, as necessary, to work in Office 2007.

        Created XML code to manipulate the Office 2007 ribbon interface.

        Updated VB6 code to interact with Office 2007.

        Manually converted VB6 code to VB.NET.

Additional Projects

 

        Control Arrays:  Invented, developed, and successfully implemented VB6-style "control arrays" which can be used in VB.NET.  Project is hosted at Microsoft's Codeplex site (http://controlarrays.codeplex.com/).  This allows users to create an array of Windows Forms controls, a powerful feature which Microsoft had removed with the advent of VB.NET

        Personal Finances:  Designed and developed full system life-cycle Access database which is used for personal finance organization.  The system tracks transactions categorically and allows user to monitor multiple accounts, including deposit transactions and multiple check deposits.  Database includes advanced sorting and filtering capabilities, report creation and publishing, keeping running totals and balances.

        College Testing:  Developed database system for grading tests used by professors at Touro College.  Data was entered into Microsoft Access, which was then programmatically calculated and integrated into Excel spreadsheets using OLE Automation.  System successfully saved professors hundreds of hours by programmatically computing grades of multiple choice tests and then recording the data in a format specific to the business requirements.

        Wedding Guests:  Developed relational Access database system which facilities the organization of guests invited to a wedding or other party.  System makes use of web API technologies to download XML data from www.whitepages.com to assist user in finding accurate contact information of the guests.

        Invoicing:  Developed sophisticated Excel spreadsheet used for creating invoices for customers.  System makes use of web API technology described above to retrieve accurate contact information, address, and Google Map of client.

        Other:   Developed other projects using different technologies, as well as combined technologies, including exposing .NET libraries for use in VBA, creating custom task panes for use in Word and Excel via VB.NET, FTP via VBA, brute force password cracking via VBA, Win API calls via VBA, X10 smart home automation via VB.NET, using Excel to extract data from web pages.

        Knowledgeable In:  Visual Studio 2010 (VB.NET), all versions of Windows, all versions of MS Office, Ubuntu Linux, all major Google products (Gmail, etc., setting up custom domains, POP3, IMAP, etc.), all major web browsers, hard drive partitioning, virus removal, basic network configuration, running virtual machines, Adobe InDesign.
